Especially for all you followers that are doing our Get HOT for Valentines Challenge- ooh we LOVE these, they are a favourite JDV home made tasty treat! Cutting out sugar from our diet can be a real challenge, and our taste buds can take some time to adjust to not having it or craving it. These little chocolate balls are a perfect replacement snack for those with a sweet tooth. They are great for pre or post workout too. The hazelnut can be replaced with any nut butter if you would prefer- almond or peanut is a good alternative. If you have chosen not to have protein powder in your diet, then replace with a 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder (unsweetened) and a tablespoon of ground almonds or a few extra oats so that the mixture is not too sticky. They are full of natural ingredients and quick and easy to make. Enjoy!
Makes around 10 balls:
1/3 cup Hazlenut butter (although this could be made with your favourite flavour nut butter- almond/ peanut/ cashew etc.)
1/3 cup oats
¼ cup honey or agave syrup
1 scoop Chocolate Protein (we like Sunwarrior Warrior blend)
OR, 2tsp unsweetened cocoa and 1tbs ground almonds
¼ cup milled flax (with cocoa is good!)
Shredded unsweetened coconut
Warm the honey or agave syrup so it becomes runny.
Stir in the oats, protein powder and flax and leave to cool a little. Grab a bite size amount and roll into balls, then roll in the coconut to coat. Put on a tray/plate and leave in the fridge to cool and set. These can be frozen well and don’t take long to defrost.
