You made it through Week 1 of the #JDVHealthyMe Challenge – we are so pleased with how everyone is doing, and so grateful to all of your for supporting this amazing challenge giveaway – you’re going to love the prizes!
So, moving on to week 2 – #NourishMe
As the name suggests, this is all about nourishing your body, giving it the fuel it needs for optimal performance.
We love to eat clean at JDV – fresh food that has grown in the ground or grazed organically and roamed freely. However, we are only human and we also love the odd treat, who doesn’t? And why deprive ourselves? We know that as long as we are looking after our bodies 80-90% of the time, a little indulgence on a Friday night is not going to ruin things! We are not going to lose the gains we have made just by enjoying a bowl of ice cream, the odd take away, or a cookie here or there. We enjoy that treat, we don’t feel guilty about it, we don’t over-indulge every day and we move on and focus on our goals.
So this week is about nutrition goals. You’ve proved to us that you can move your body every day, you’ve pushed yourselves, and most importantly you’ve enjoyed it (we know you have!). Now we want you to enjoy food, the way it is meant to be eaten. This week we want you to focus on the following:
* Cutting out processed food as much as possible – buy fresh products and ingredients that haven’t been tampered with and start cooking from scratch. Doing this means that you know exactly what is going in your body, that it is good nourishing stuff that is going to help your body function properly! Buy fresh veg and fruit, nuts and seeds, simple forms of protein such as lean meat, eggs, beans, lentils, plain and greek yoghurt, natural carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes, quinoa and oats. We could go on, but we think you get the picture!
*Making healthy smoothies and drinks – many ready-made smoothies are advertised as healthy, but actually contain a lot of sugars. Making your own is the simplest thing – use coconut water, almond or coconut milk or just water as a base, add a couple of fruits and them some veggies – kale, spinach, celery whatever you have in the fridge – when you add fruit into the mix it masks the taste of the veggies in case you’re concerned about it tasting a little funky! We will be posting some of our favourite smoothie mixes for you to try.
* Recipes – we are going to be putting up a few of our favourite recipes this week, we want you to try them out and let us know what you think. Or if there are any that are already on our website that you have been meaning to try, this is the week to give them a go!
Ok, easy enough right? Now we want that photographic evidence again, or even just a little post or tweet to tell us what you are doing to to nourish your body this week. Photograph your meals and smoothie concoctions, tell us about recipes you’ve tried – we can’t wait to see you make those changes!
And of course – remember to Like and Share on our social media pages for the best chance of winning that giveaway – thanks for participating!
Good luck and enjoy this one!
