So, February is upon us – a whole month of 2015 already gone. How has your ‘new year’ been so far? Did you make any resolutions? Are you sticking to them??
We’re not really ‘New Years’ Resolution’ girls at JDV. That’s not to say that we haven’t set ourselves some goals for the year ahead – we have plenty of them. It’s just that new years’ resolutions tend to be quite generic, often they are to ‘lose weight’, ‘get fit’ or ‘eat healthily’ – all of which are great resolutions – but without a plan or a more specific goal, they may seem like an endless chore and too difficult to accomplish.
If you really want to achieve a goal it needs to be realistic. You need to think about what is required and ask yourself:
How big is my goal? Is it something I can achieve within 3 months? If not, you probably need to set yourself smaller goals along the way. Ideally, something you can achieve within 4-6 weeks so that you can stay motivated.
You need to consider what it will take to reach your goal. If it’s weight loss or fitness that you are aiming for, you need make time to fit in regular workouts, long walks, swimming, running, whatever you plan to do to increase your activity levels. If you are looking to improve your nutrition, then you need to plan your shopping trips and menus in advance.
Can you see yourself achieving your goal? Are you motivated enough to go for it on your own, or do you need someone to help you get there? Just by putting your goal out there and making it known to family and friends can make it easier to accomplish. If people know what you are trying to achieve, they can encourage and motivate you to keep on track.
Why not tell us about your goals for 2015, whether it’s running a 5k, tackling a triathlon, accomplishing a new yoga pose or doing the splits; we’d love to hear what you’re challenging yourself to do. Chances are, we’ll be able to provide you with some training tips or nutrition advice, and we’re definitely up for helping motivate as many people as possible to achieve their fitness and healthy lifestyle goals! So, don’t be shy, let us know what you are planning to achieve and let’s make 2015 a positive year!
One of our non-fitness related goals this year is to generate more traffic on our website – quite a generic goal – so we have broken it down into more specific, achievable goals … the first of which is to get some video footage up so that people can try out some of our Quick FHiiT sessions at home. There, we’ve put it out there now so you can hold us accountable! Watch this space!
